The cool, damp Spring has led to a number of bears wandering into Sunset Country communities.
Little food and slow vegetation growth in the bush have the animals hanging around populized areas for an extended period of time.
Red Lake has had several nuisance bear reports and Ministry of Natural Resources Officer Dave Anderson says the public should maintain a clear yard and keep garbage sealed and food secure to deter bears.
Anderson adds the new Provincial bear protocol has been effective and a technician has been hired in Red Lake to do some public education work.
