The three year ride as Ontario Regional Chief comes to an end Wednesday as Stan Beardy is not seeking re-election.
Beardy says one big accomplishment under his watch was changing the face of the Education Act.
He says aboriginal learning has to be led by First Nations and reflect their culture and traditions.
Beardy will be replaced at a traditional ceremony that starts at 11:30.
His departure comes as First Nations leaders from across the province meet in Rat Portage for the 41st Annual All Chiefs Ontario Conference.
Beardy says resource revenue sharing, treaty implementation and growing the economy are all priories this week.
Beardy notes they also have to find a way to improve relations with both levels of government.
