Still Room For Improvement In ER Wait Times At Dryden Hospital

A report on wait times released by the Canadian Institute for Health Information is an encouraging one for the Dryden Regional Health Centre.

The statistics show the hospital is ahead of the regional average in a number of categories.

Chief Executive Officer Wade Petranik says there is still some work to do in improving Emergency Room wait times.

The 2015-2016 statistics show the wait time for emergency room initial physician assessment is 2.6-hours.

The Northwest average is 2.4-hours and the provincial average is 3-hours.

Petranik notes they are taking a real deep dive into the data to see what they can do to fix the problem.

He says they are handcuffed by the fact that they only have one doctor in the ER at any one time.

Petranik adds the hospital is experiencing peak periods.

He says the wait is the longest between 11:00am and 2:00pm and then again between 4:00pm and 7:00pm.
