Storm causes outages across the region

Hydro One crews were forced to scramble this afternoon.

The electricity went out in a number of different areas after a storm rolled through the Kenora and Rainy River Districts.

The Minaki area was hardest hit, with over 500 Hydro One customers losing power.

Smaller outages were reported near Red Lake, New Gold’s Rainy River mine, Silver Lake, north of Kenora, and Rocky Inlet, east for Fort Frances.

Hydro One expects to have power restored to all areas by late this afternoon.

The storm also hit the Ignace area hard, uprooting trees throughout the community.
