Strong Support For Casino In Kenora

If a public meeting is any indication, almost twice as many people support a casino in the City of Kenora than oppose it.
About 100 people attended last night’s final public meeting.
Al Kobylka was one of the people to speak in favour, suggesting a casino would have a positive economic impact for the community.
He notes it would be a true tourist attraction and would create new jobs.
Dennis Wallace is the former Chair of the Lake of the Woods Development Commission and says the city needs to follow through with the OLG and find out what kind of development is being proposed.
Marc Belcaen was one of only a handful of people to speak against a casino and says the social costs are just too high.
Belcaen says the impact will be huge as families will be put at risk.
He warns of parents gambling away their childrens money.
Ruth Maluish doesn’t believe a casino will bring more money into the coffers of local business.
She says money will instead be spent at the gaming facility
Kenora city council will have the final say when they hold a special meeting on October 4th, to decide whether to invite a casino proposal.
