More students in the Keewatin-Patricia School District are passing the EQAO reading and writing exams.
The success rate for reading is 74% for Grade 6 (up 6% over 2-years) and 63% for Grade 3 students. (up 17% over 2-years)
The success rate for writing is 64% in Grade 6 and 61% for students in Grade 3.
Superintendent of Education Carl Hron says she’s not surprised by the results as the Board has focused its attention on the two disciplines.
The subject that is causing the most grief for kids is Math.
EQAO Math test scores are down 4% from last year for Grade 3 and 6 students.
Hron notes the Board understands its an area of concern, but notes math scores are down across the Province.
She believes the Ministry of Education will make that a priority for 2012.
