Ontario legislature has been called back but the Premier isn’t attending.
Ontario’s MPPs were brought back to Queen’s Park amid a possible Ontario Power Generation Strike.
At a press conference, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says Premier Ford shouldn’t fear-monger about possible blackouts at Christmas.
“They threatened the back-to-work legislation before the strike had even begun. Basically saying throwing up their hands and saying ‘we have no desire whatsoever, as a government, to use any tools that we have at hand’ and instead went straight to the biggest hammer available, which is back-to-work legislation.”
Horwath says she’s hopeful the Premier will be sitting in Queen’s Park tomorrow so he can answer questions.
The Leader of the Official Opposition was also asked about Ron Taverner who stepped aside as OPP Commissioner amid mounting controversy.
Horwath says she’s pleased with his decision but is still calling for an investigation into any meddling that might have happened in Premier Ford’s office.
“This entire situation should never have started in the first place. And it’s because Mr. Ford doesn’t understand that he can’t just get away with doing whatever he wants to do. As the official opposition we have an obligation to keep the government to account and hopefully Mr. Ford has learned something in this process.”
She says Ontario deserves to know what role Ford played in his close friend’s appointment.
