There have been 700 forest fires this summer in Northwestern Ontario,
that’s more than triple the amount recorded at the same time last summer.
But despite the dramatic increase in fires, effective
suppression efforts have kept the total area burned close to what it was
last year, about 170 square kilometres.
The largest fire is being fought inside Woodland Caribou Provincial
Park, but it’s considered under control.
