A new mobile tourism app being developed by the Dryden Development Corporation is drawing the ire of a local tourist organization.
Sunset Country says its been hard at work on its own mobile app for the past year.
Executive Director Gerry Cariou says it’s an exact duplication of what they are doing.
Cariou says they have spent years creating the app, without using taxpayer dollars.
He’s also upset the federal government has decided to fund the new app.
Cariou says taxpayer dollars are being used to help someone who the government thinks it’s benefiting.
Cariou says they are putting about $30,000 into the development of their app, compared to the $160,000 grant announced yesterday by FedNor.
He says it doesn’t cost $160,000 to develop a website and he says there’s a lot of unanswered questions.
