Support For Conservation Component Of Plan

The first Chief Energy Conservation Officer in Ontario says the province’s long-term electricity plan is a step in the right direction.
The strategy focuses on energy conservation, with a number of programs to encourage folks to cut down on electricity use.
Peter Love is now the President of Energy Services Association of Canada and he says this is the right way to go.
Love says energy conservation is the least expensive, fastest and the most reliable way to address our energy needs.
He adds there’s little opposition.
Love says conservation should have been the focus from day one and then we could have looked at how we can generate the necessary power.
Love says he was hoping for more detail on provincial targets as well as the responsibilities of the commercial and private sector and the everyday consumer.
The plan does come with a hike in hydro rates of roughly 33%.
The Province claims rates will level out in the long-term.
