Some tax relief may be on the way small businesses, charities and not-for-profits in Northwestern Ontario.
The Ontario Legislature has passed the “Supporting Small Businesses Act” through it’s second reading.
If Bill 105 is passed, 88% of private-sector employers would be exempt from paying the Employer Health Tax.
That works out to each of them saving up to $975 annually, and more than 12,000 would be exempt from paying the tax at all.
Providing tax relief to small businesses is part of the government’s plan to support the business climate and invest in people and infrastructure.
In order for the bill to take effect on January 1st of next year, the Legislature will have to review it in committee and have it pass a third reading before the House rises in December.
