The leaves falling, the air’s got that perfect sweater-weather crispness, and the region is buzzing with events that range from literary launches to dog parades and dance parties. Whether you’re in Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, or Ear Falls, there’s something happening that’ll make you want to step out and join the fun. “My Many Lives” Book Launch by Howard Byrd Lockhart

Where: Sioux Lookout Public Library

Join members of the Lockhart as they donate copies of Howard’s book, read a few passages, and share stories! Copies of My Many Lives will be available for purchase.

Taylor Swift Album Release Dance Party

Date: Friday, October 3

Time: 9:30 PM

Where: Royal Canadian Legion Br. 63

Swifties, unite! Celebrate the release of Taylor’s newest album with a glittery dance party that’s all sparkle, sass, and sing-alongs. Costumes encouraged, heartbreak optional.

Dryden Fall Fest

Harvest Hay Day

Date: Saturday, October 4

Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Where: Laura Howe Marsh

Shop nearly 50 vendors, catch live entertainment, and enjoy tasty eats—all in one festive spot. Snap your seasonal photos with Lynsey Jordanna Photography, enter the Gourd Goals growing contest, and let the kids enjoy a mini-Halloween adventure with the Treats & Trees walk through Laura Howe. It all happens in the Laura Howe parking lot and along Van Horne.

Howl-o-Weenie Parade

Date: Saturday, October 4

Time: 11:45 AM 12 PM Start

Where: Starts at 330 Vanhorne Parking lot

Dogs in costumes. Need we say more? From hot dogs to superheroes, this parade is paws-itively adorable.

1st Annual HOWL-O-WEENIE WALK – Your Sunset Country

Where: Government Dock Start & Finish

Lace up for a community run that’s part fitness, part civic pride. Whether you’re sprinting or strolling, you’re helping raise funds for local youth programs.

Fire Prevention Week Open House

Date: Wednesday, October 8

Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Where: Dryden Fire Hall

Meet your local heroes, climb aboard a fire truck, and learn how to keep your home safe. Plus, there’s free snacks and giveaways—because safety should be celebrated. This years theme “Charge into Fire Safety – Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home”

Red Lake

Red Lake Miners vs Kam River Fighting Walleye

Date: October 3 & 4

Time: 7:30 PM

Where: Cochenour Arena

Red Lake It’s hockey night in Red Lake! Watch the Miners take on the Fighting Walleye in a showdown that promises slapshots, big saves, and hometown pride.
