Hockey fever is building in Lac Seul First Nation as Junior Hockey is set to return to the community.
The Red Lake Miners and Dryden GM Ice Dogs will be playing a regular season game at the Lac Seul Events Centre on Friday, November 15th at 7:30pm.
The arena hosted one game back in the 2013-2014 season, where the English River Miners defeated the Dryden Ice Dogs 4-2 in front of a crowd of about 800.
Facility Manager Jeremy Capay says he wanted to bring junior hockey back to build some excitement in the community and across the region.
Capay says they are looking for a great game and everyone is ready for the experience.
He adds members of the Red Lake Miners will be touring the three area schools meeting with students.
Capay says they will be talking about health and fitness and what it takes to play at the next level.
He notes “I think this is something that’s going to be quite the experience for the students and the kids, one that they will probably never forget.”
Thunder Bay North Stars forward Jacob Brown has been named SIJHL/Play It Again Sports Player of the Week.
In three games last week, the 20-year-old scored in each of them helping the league-leading North Stars pick up four points in the standings.
Brown has collected goals in six straight outings and is riding a 12-game point streak.
Through his first 17 contests this season, he has only been held off the scoresheet once and leads all skaters in goals, points and game-winning goals.
Jacob Anthony of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Red Lake Miners forward Ryan Patterson also received consideration.
