Talk of Forestry Assistance

Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty has given his support to a motion calling on the Federal Government to increase forestry sector assistance to levels provided for the auto sector.
However, Rafferty told the House of Commons this week that despite a recent billion dollar announcement for the industry, he would like the Government negotiate an end to the U-S Black Liquor subsidy and compensate Canadian mills to bring them on par with their American counterparts.
Kenora MP Greg Rickford says the opposition is comparing apples to orange’s.
Rickford adds the Economic Action Plan is providing $40-million to develop and diversify markets for Canadian wood products and to expand the North American lumber market.
