TBay Tel Announces Expansion in the Northwest

There’s competition coming for DMTS’s new GSM-based cell service.

TBayTel today (Wed) announced plans to build a new Third Generation High Speed Packet Access wireless network across Northern Ontario. The company says the new network will provide customers in Northern Ontario with an advanced mobile wireless platform for the future.

In 2010 the new network will be deployed in Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden and other regional communities. The planned regional network in other communities and along highways is to be completed in 2011.

The Third Generationor 3G High Speed Wireless Network is based on HSPA or High Speed Packet Access, the latest evolution of GSM technology.

Dryden-owned DMTS converted to GSM service last year and has been expanding across the district.
