Team USA Defeats Team Canada In SIJHL All-Star Game

Dryden GM Ice Dogs players were well represented at the first ever ‘Border Battle’ SIJHL All-Star game.

Eric Stout scored two goals to lead Team USA to a 5-2 win over Team Canada Wednesday night in front of some 750 entertained fans in Eveleth, Minnesota.

Evan Walls replied for Canada, with Jacen Bracko and Trevor Kavanaugh picking up assists.

Walls was named Canada MVP.

Earlier in the day, Brendan Jay recorded the hardest shot in the Skills Competition, edging out teammate Trevor Kavanaugh with a 95mph bullet.

Back to the game, English River Miners players were strong with Sam Cirone picking up two assists for the Americans and Jared Janke recording a helper for Canada.

Minnesota Iron Rangers goalie Rob Ivy was named USA MVP.

The game was a thrilling back-and-forth thriller that kept fans on the edge of their seat, with players ignoring the All-Star tradition with a number of big hits.

Organizers are calling the festivities a success, with plans to hold the event in Eveleth once again next year.
