The Ontario Government is investing $5.7 million in telemedicine technology to make health services more accessible to Northern communities.
Telemedicine uses video-conferencing and digital technology to virtually connect patients to health professionals.
Health Minister George Smitherman says the money will provide health care for thousands of Northern Ontarians in their own communities, instead of having to travel to get it.
The funds will go to the North Network, which supports over 100 health care sites in Northern and Central Ontario.
Officials say the Network has provided more than 5,000 medical consultations so far this year.
