Terry Fox Ride of Hope reaches halfway point in Thunder Bay

The Terry Fox Ride of Hope has hit the halfway mark as the group of cyclists made their way into Thunder Bay on Monday morning.

The annual ride, which is entering its 11th year, started as a 350km trip before evolving into a cross-Canada journey this year, which marks the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.

Fox’s brother Darrell organizes the ride and is participating alongside seven other cyclists.

The team started their journey in Vancouver on June 9, with a goal of biking 220 kilometres a day.

The plan is to arrive in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, on July 10.

“Terry’s event was the Marathon of Hope, and there’s an incredible hope out there,” said Darrell Fox. “You know, I see it every day now. I’m a sponge for all things, Terry, and this adventure and this journey have been about meeting people who have experienced cancer and are alive today because of the investment we made over the last 45 years in Cancer Research, and that’s what it’s all about.”

“Adding more hope to the world, and that’s what we’re doing with every event and with every ride that we take on.”

Thunder Bay wasn’t the first stop in the region, as the Ride stopped in Kenora on Friday.

As of Monday morning, the ride has raised over $1,000,000.

Each of the riders is also individually raising $45,000.
