Testing for Uranium Continues

Residents in the Dryden and Vermilion Bay area are being urged to test
their well water for uranium if that haven’t done so yet.
The Northwestern Health Unit has received nearly 300-water samples
from rural residents and about a quarter of wells tested exceed the
acceptable amount of uranium content.
Spokesperson Bill Limerick warns several wells could still be above the acceptable standard of 20 micrograms per litre.
He says some samples tested in the 90 to 100 microgram range.
Limerick says higher levels can lead to kidney damage and rural
residents who exceed the acceptable standard should install a treatment
device to remove the uranium.
