The Formerly Low Profile N.E.B. Faces A Lot Of Pressure

The National Energy Board used to be a low profile organization doing its
work with the public and the media paying little attention but that has
changed.

Chair Peter Watson says they are called on to lead the climate change
debate, to increase market access for Canada’s energy and to allow more
people to participate in their processes.

He says they are asked to cut red tape, to go faster and slower, to ensure
pipelines never fail and answer all the voices in the debate and throughout
it all remain neutral.

In 2013, the N.E.B. fielded 600 media calls compared to only 80 in 2008.
