Police want to remind the public and retail store owners to keep a close eye.
There have been numerous cases of distraction thefts and fake sales in several parts of Northern Ontario.
The suspects travel in groups using rented vehicles and can be identified due to their particular fashion which helps them commit the crime.
In a retail situation, the suspect will stand behind a person using their debit card and memorize the pin and once the victim is outside, they are distracted while another suspect steals their wallet.
They have also been known to distract store employees and a female suspect will hide items under a long skirt.
In street-level sales, the suspect will try and sell the victim gold jewelry which ends up being fake.
Anyone who comes across this kind of situation is asked to contact police.
