I forget the exact date in 2020 when we first started wearing face masks as a protective measure due to COVID-19 but it’s coming up to a one year anniversary isn’t it? An anniversary none of us would have ever thought happening.
So much has changed in one year due to COVID including face masks. Now more layers, different materials and designs and prints that not only protect but make a statement. From the much needed high-tech masks for the medical workers to the fashion complimenting accessory for every day use by most of us. Yes ‘fashion complimenting accessory’. You don’t want to know how many different Spider-Man designed covid masks I have. Put it this way – I’m almost at the point that I need an entire drawer to store them (that according to my wife).
Masks that come in billions of different design patterns, colours and more. They’ve become advertising billboards (or nose and mouthboards). Choose your style. Choose your brand.
You can even find face masks that come with a digital read out message that you can change to whatever you want. You program the message with your cell phone!
So since they seem to staying around for a while – what’s next when it comes to face masks? Let’s use our imagination!
For me I think I would like to have the ability of slinging webs through my mask as a default to webshooters on my wrists. Why? Well why not!!? Haaaa!
What else should we have? How about some sort of deodorizing spray function that would be emmitted from your covid mask for when you have bad breath or the person you’re chatting with seemingly forgot to shower and you can tell – even though you’re 6 feet apart. Just a quick nod of your head and the silent spray makes that rugged guy smell disappear and suddenly you’re enveloped in a scent like your flower bed or your Mom’s homemade cooking!!
Or how about a different angle on the digital read-out masks that allow you to program a visual message. How about having a face mask instead that has a tiny speaker embedded in the mask! The speaker would speak for you. You could select from prerecorded audio messages that you made yourself through your phone and or sound effects. These would be especially handy if you didn’t know what to actually say at the time during a conversation or argument. Prerecorded example messages that you could make to get you out of any situation could be something like: “Honey you are absolutely right”, “I don’t know what to say except….you are beautiful”, or “Wow! You look great. Did you get your hair done or something?” The possibilities are endless! Record the messages, select one and activate with nod of your head. And if you really didn’t want to select from a prerecorded audio message from you then perhaps some saved sound effects that could get you out of the moment. A siren sound effect would definitely be a distraction, a barking dog perhaps….but that might get you sent to the ‘hospital’. I’m sure you can think of some other ones!
What ever is coming next….wear your mask. Wash your hands. Protect others. Protect yourself. Stay safe.
