Three New Fires During Fire Ban

An outdoor fire ban remains in place across Ontario but Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry personnel still had to deal with three new starts on the weekend.

A 6.6 hectare blaze ignited in the Northwest Angle area, near the Canadian/American border.

The Saturday fire is listed as under control.

Two small fires sparked Sunday in the Whitedog First Nation and Tetu Lake area, northwest of Kenora.

Both are being held.

Violating a Restricted Fire Zone could carry a fine of up to $25,000, three months in jail and financial responsibility for any costs incurred in fighting a forest fire.
