Thunder Bay Man Speaks About His Ordeal

Thunder Bay’s Trevor Miller says his encounter with a black bear in Sandbar Provincial Park near Ignace this past weekend lasted about 2 hours.
Miller says his first instinct after being attacked by the bear was to get into the water, and wait it out.
The 42-year-old says he tried to go down the shore in hopes of tricking the bruin.
Miller says the bear then entered the water and came right at him.
He says he was able to grab a stick and strike the bear in the nose.
Miller adds the bear went back to shore and regrouped as if it were planning its next step.
Miller says every time he made a break towards the trail, the bear would head him off and keep him in the water.
Miller eventually escaped but not before his sister’s schnauzer was mauled to death trying to protect him.
