A Montreal-based company has plans to resurrect the former Abitibi
Mission Mill in Thunder Bay, which closed last spring and put about 300
people out of work.
The President of St. Laurent Paperboard, proposes spending what he
calls a “substantial amount of money” to give new life to the mill.
He says the money would come from a group of investors.
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union says the
investment is believed to be about $50-million.
The company hopes to begin operations later this year with about 80
workers to start, plus another 40 indirect jobs.
