Tikinagan Child and Family Services is celebrating Honouring Our Children Day Friday.
The day was first recognized by Tikinagan in 2009 to acknowledge the strength, bravery and resilience shown by children and youth in the face of difficult times.
It’s an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and efforts throughout the school year and is a time to remind children that they are special, supported and cared for by their community.
Honouring Our Children Day is also a celebration of Tikinagan’s philosophy of care known as Mamow Obiki-Ahwahsoowin, which means “Everyone working together to raise our children.”
Activities and community celebrations are being held in the 30 First Nations served by Tikinagan.
Meantime, the agency is also officially launching its YouthKnow Team, a newly created youth advisory team.
The group will be formed with youth from the member communities and will support Tikinagan by providing input about youth culture, social media, living in their communities, and the agency itself.
Officials say they want to engage, empower and equip First Nations youth by hearing their ideas, utilizing their skills, and challenging them as leaders.
