Tobacco/Alcohol Major Health Problems In Area

Crystal meth and opioiod use are an increasing problem in northwestern Ontario, but tobacco and alcohol kill more people.

That’s one piece of information presented to attendees at a two-day conference in Kenora.

Dr. Sean Moore says it’s a mixed bag, “the cancers, the lung disease, the heart disease, strokes. All of the kinds of things that you can get as a result of smoking tobacco. But also, I introduced today, some of the problems with nicotine addiction on what that affect has on vaping.”

Moore adds there’s a huge local impact on alcohol use and problem drinking.

The Chief Emergency Room doctor at the Lake of the Woods Hospital says he doesn’t want to downplay the impact of drugs in local communities, but we shouldn’t forget the things that cause the most damage.
