Today Is National 2-1-1 Day

Today is National 2-1-1 Day.
In addition, today marks the 5-year anniversary of 2-1-1 North, which offers quick and easy 24/7 access to health, community, government and social services in Northern Ontario.
Marie Klassen is the Director of Services with the Lakehead Social Planning Council and says it’s kind of like a non-emergency 9-1-1.
Klassen adds that 211North.ca is comprised of about 8,000 records of non-profit organizations and government services for all of the North.
2-1-1 started in the United States as a pilot project and came to Canada over 10 years ago.
The first launch in Ontario started in Toronto, followed by Niagara Falls, Collingwood, Windsor, Hamilton, Thunder Bay and Ottawa.
