Tornado Touches Down In Quetico

Environment Canada is now confirming a tornado hit the Quetico Park area last week.

It occurred in the area of Ottertrack Lake, in the southeastern part of the park near the Ontario-Minnesota border last Thursday afternoon.

Ministry of Natural Resources flew the area the next day to find several trees flattened along a 100 metre wide, nearly two kilometre long stretch of the park.

Environment Canada believes, based on the damage, the area was hit by a F-2 scale tornado with wind peaks of up to 190 kilometres an hour.
