For the first time ever, the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is planning to run a deficit to operate its schools across the Region this year.
Trustees have approved the 2010-2011 budget and it calls for a deficit of about $1.5-million.
Dean Carrie is the Super intent of Education and he says a shortfall in funding for special education programs is to blame.
Carrie says they will be able to cover the shortfall in funding by taking money from reserves.
He adds the Province has approved the deficit budget.
The total budget comes in at $85-million.
