Tough Times Ahead For Weyerhaeuser in Dryden

Uncertain times, uncertain future!
That is the message being handed down by Dryden’s Mill Manager.
Norm Bush says Weyerhaueuser is facing difficult times thanks to a slumping lumber industry, high energy costs, the softwood lumber dispute and the state of the Canadian loonie.
Bush adds the use of paper is going through a negative growth rate and more and more people are using electronics instead.
As a result, Bush says difficult decisions will have to be made.
Bush says the company is close to finalizing its strategic plan.
The plan includes reductions in man power, cost reductions, energy cutbacks and fibre cost reductions.
Many have speculated an announcement to come down July 15th, however those reports are erroneous.
Bush told CKDR this morning that a date has not been set.
Bush says it will likely be made between mid-July and the end of the month.
Bush says the company also has to determine where to find lumber in Northwestern Ontario.
