The political jawing continues over tourism interests in northwestern Ontario.
Gerry Cariou is the Executive Director of the Ontario Sunset Country Travel Association.
Cariou stresses the province is paying little attention to tourism in our area and they don’t even know what’s going on here.
Tourism Minister Michael Chan told CKDR News last week that Northwestern Ontario needs to modernize how tourism information is shared and promoted.
Chan stated the the North needs to use the internet to promote the region because that’s where people find there information.
Cariou notes his organization is heavily involved in social media and internet use but stresses it doesn’t have the same effect as Tourism Information Centres.
He stresses the closure of area Centres has had a negative impact on visitor numbers.
