Although the new Northern Ontario Tourism Zone has not been officially formalized, a volunteer transition team is now accepting applications for tourism related initiatives.
Spokesperson Paul Pepe says they have received a total of 40-projects so far.
The projects include a big-game hunting proposal, motorcycle tours and marketing strategies into Manitoba and the Northern U.S.
A promotion package to promote Lake of the Woods to Manitobans and those living just South of the Border is another project receiving consideration.
Roughly 9 of the proposals relate directly to Northwestern Ontario and are on the Minister of Tourism’s desk for review.
$1.55-million in funding is available this year.
