Town of Ignace responds to seniors complex concerns

The Town of Ignace hasn’t ruled out building a new seniors complex.

But council says it wants to do it’s due diligence before committing to such a project.

The town says if there are parties in the community or outside the town that are willing to take on such developments, Council is encouraging them to do so.

Mayor Kim Baigrie says the project was not dropped, but postponed until a full council is in place and the required due diligence is completed.

She says the town is not ready or willing to take uncalculated risks that could be detrimental to the the community’s economic wellbeing.

In addition, the town says an unauthorized application to the Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation for the seniors project was made without Council approval.
