Treasury Metals Issues Update On Goliath Gold Project North Of Wabigoon

Treasury Metals continues to do its due diligence to get its Goliath Gold project off the ground north of Wabigoon.

A public meeting was held in Dryden on Saturday to present the findings of a revised environmental impact study.

Mark Wheeler is the Director of Projects and he says right now they are trying to address comments and concerns that residents may have.

Wheeler says one focus for the company is water treatment, ensuring they are releasing clean water into the environment.

He adds there remains a major legacy concern with mercury and they are looking at treating mercury as low as they possibly can and possibly putting it back in the local environment better than it came from.

Wheeler believes they have done a good job to design the project around the environment but stresses they are always looking for public feedback.

He stresses protecting local waterways and fisheries remains their number one priority.

As for the timeline for the mining project, Treasury Metals is still waiting to see if its environmental plan will receive federal approval.

Wheeler believes that process will come to a close sometime in the “near future”.

He says after that they will go through the provincial permit phase, dealing with the detailed parts of how much water they can take and discharge as well as closure plans.

Wheeler says they hope to have all the permits and approvals in place in late 2019, with mine development starting in early 2020.

Until then, he notes the focus remains on developing the engineering design and specific details of a proposed mine.
