Treaty Three Chief Upset With Federal Appeal Decision

The Grand Chief of Treaty 3 is expressing his disappointment in the federal government’s decision to appeal a Human Rights Tribunal ruling which orders compensation to Indigenous children and their families impacted by the on-reserve child welfare system.

Francis Kavanaugh calls the government’s decision unacceptable.

The Tribunal awarded compensation of $40,000 to each child.

The feds wants a judicial review and that the claim for compensation be dismissed.
