The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario is starting to look into a complaint filed against the Township of Emo and three members of council.
The Tribunal has accepted an application from Borderland Pride.
The volunteer organization requested a legal proceeding in June after Emo’s township council rejected, by a 3-2 vote, a request to declare July as Pride Month in the community and to display the Rainbow Flag.
The municipality, Mayor Harold McQuaker and Councillors Warren Toles and Harold Boven are named in the complaint.
The Tribunal is giving them until December 15 to respond.
