The Conference Board says Canada’s paper products industry will lose a bundle again this year, more than $1-billion.
This is the 7th year in a row that the sector has lost money overall, but this year’s losses of $1.2-billion more than double’s last year’s red ink.
What’s more, lower demand for paper is expected to be permanent with the slump accelerating the advertising switch from newspapers to the Internet, leading to some papers closing shop.
The Board says production will fall 14% this year and decrease again next year.
