Trump pauses 50% tariff on Canadian goods

Canada says it has made substantial progress in ongoing trade talks with the United States, but that there’s still more work to be done.

As discussions move forward, President Trump has agreed to delay a planned 50 per cent tariff on a range of Canadian goods until the end of day on Friday, August 21.

The tariff would have been imposed under the U.S. Tariff Act.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada remains focused on securing a deal while building a stronger economy at home and providing more certainty for businesses, workers, farmers, and families.

The federal government says discussions with U.S. officials remain ongoing as both sides work to resolve outstanding trade issues.
