TSB Releases Cause Of Fatal Wasaya Crash

The cause of a fatal Wasaya Airlines crash near Pickle Lake is being attributed to icy conditions

The Transportation Safety Board has concluded that the direct cause of the December 2015 crash, was an ice build up on the Cessna aircraft.

TSB Spokesperson Eric Vermette says another factor, was the airline’s practice to allow this type of plane to fly into such weather.

Vermette says the aircraft wasn’t certified to fly in icy conditions.

He notes it’s the companies responsibility to evaluate the risk before dispatching a flight and must ensure that a pre-flight risk assessment is completed.

The report says since the incident, Wasaya has changed its safety procedures.

Captain Nick Little was killed in the crash.
