A hunting trip north of Sioux Lookout has ended up costing two Southern Ontario men a total of $6,500.
Bryce Cavanagh of Odessa has pleaded guilty to hunting big game without a licence and discharging a firearm without care and attention for people or property.
Jason Brown of Enterprise pleaded guilty of placing his big game seal on an animal shot by another person.
Court heard that last September Cavanagh saw a bull moose standing on the roadway and shot the animal with his high-powered rifle, even though he was well outside of the five kilometres allowed for party hunting.
He also didn’t have proper radio communication.
Brown, who was hunting more than 10-kilometres from Cavanagh, placed his bull moose tag on the animal more than two hours after it was killed.
Cavanagh has also been banned from hunting for one year.
