Two Veteran Politicians In The Running For Mayor In Red Lake

Two political heavyweights are vying for the Mayor’s seat in Red Lake.

Fred Mota and Sandy Middleton have filed their papers for the October 22nd Municipal election.

Mota says he has the political experience as well as the passion and love for the community to lead Red Lake.

The current Councillor stresses they need to develop an infrastructure development strategy, where every citizen would be aware of what they are planning.

Mota notes other priorities include attracting growth in the community, retaining existing businesses and preparing for the future by expanding north.

He’s also putting a heavy emphasis on tourism and promoting Red Lake to visitors.

He’s right now joined by Sandy Middleton.

Middleton says the time was right to step up to the plate, banking on his 8-years of experience as a Councillor, 4-years serving as Deputy Mayor.

He says his main priority is cutting down some of their debt and developing a plan to eliminate it entirely.

Middleton says they must also find a healthy balance to carry out infrastructure work as well as other community upgrades.

Running for Council so far includes Tom Doherty, Mike Desmeules, Samantha Dykin, Gene Vallee, Carol Baron, Janet Hager and Jack Goodwillie.

The final day to enter the election race is Friday, July 27th.
