Underdogs No More! 17th Ranked Chargers Win OFSAA Gold

I guess what they say is true! Never judge a book by its cover!

The relative unknowns from the Golden Horseshoe became the darlings of Kenora as the Garth Webb Chargers won the All-Ontario Girls Volleyball Championship with a straight sets win over the Riverside Rebels Wednesday. (28-26, 25-20 and 25-20)

The final was one that no one was expecting at the start of the Tournament as the Chargers entered as the 17th ranked team and the young, upstart Rebels came in 9th.

The bronze medal game, the final everyone was anticipating saw top ranked and defending champion Eden knock off second ranked Samuel Genest 25-23, 25-13 and 25-16)

In the Consolation Final, the Dryden Eagles took comfort in watching Patrick Fogarty defeat Frances Liberman in four sets.

The Flames defeated the Eagles in the Consolation Quarter-Final.

For Garth Webb, it was he first OFSSA Girls Volleyball title in school history.

The Chargers also became the first GHAC conference team to win gold since 1986.
