UNICEF Releases Poverty Report

A new report released by UNICEF indicates the child poverty rate in Canada is down despite the worst recession in 80 years.
The child poverty rate went down from 23% to 21% between 2008 and 2011.
UNICEF’s President David Morley credits the National Child Benefit supplement, a federal program which provides cash to low-income families with children.
Morley says poverty can be defined by incomes around $19,000.
During the recession, 180,000 children were pulled out of poverty.
