The organizers of the first Unifor Local 324 walk to remember the victims of the 1989 Montreal Massacre are pleased with the turn-out.
A number of people braved the cold weather Thursday night in Dryden to raise awareness of Violence Against Women.
The union also made a $2,000 donation to the Hoshizaki House and Shelter employee Laurie Markowski was grateful for the support.
Markowski says anything they get in terms of donations to help women and children flee abuse is always appreciated and they can’t be more thankful for the support.
Unifor Local 324 Women’s Committee Chair Carol Jolicour made the cheque presentation.
Unifor distributed a total of $146,000 to 73 shelters across the country.
Union National President Jerry Dias says local shelters provide lifesaving assistance as front line providers of crisis services to women and children who are living with domestic violence.
