Unifor President Demanding Immediate Federal Action Against Tariffs

The National President of Unifor says Canada is dealing with a school yard bully and the only way to deal with a school yard bully is right up front on the very first day.

Jerry Dias is reacting to U.S. President Trump and his re-introduction of duties on Canadian softwood exports.

Dias stresses Canada must now come out swinging and retaliate and shed their “boy scout” image.

He says International Tribunals have ruled for years that what the United States is doing is illegal, yet they are doing it anyway.

Dias stresses tariffs on our lumber have already been squashed and the Americans should have learned their lesson the first time.

He adds the move could cost upwards of 25,000 jobs in Canada, as well as thousands more south of the border.

Dias adds the federal government must now move swiftly to implement loan guarantees for Canadian mills and assistance for affected communities.
