Union Gas wants northwestern Ontario communities to start using natural gas for their municipal vehicles.
Spokesperson Wendy Landry spoke today at the regional conference in Thunder Bay and says communities could save a lot of money if they replace their existing fuel source with natural gas.
Landry says communities in southern Ontario already made the switch and have found savings.
The company also wants to bring its natural gas to communities in the region that don’t have their service.
Landry says Terrace Bay, Marathon and Sioux Lookout in the past couldn’t be hooked up because rocks blocked pipes from getting to them.
She adds that when Red Lake switched over to natural gas it saved home owners thousands of dollars.
