The City of Kenora may soon start to smell like rotten
eggs.
Union Gas has introduced natural gas containing a higher
than normal amount of Mercapten, which gives off a strong
odour.
Spokesperson Andrea Stass says Mercapten was added to
help residents detect natural gas leaks easily.
Stass adds the strong smell should go away soon and
doesn’t pose a health risk to residents.

The natural gas with mercaptem was introduced this
afternoon. Stass adds it only takes a small amount of
mercapten to leave a strong smell.
