The union representing striking civil servants is worried now that the forest fire season is underway.
Dryden-area union spokesman Carl Bleich hopes a contract settlement is reached soon.
He says fire managers are having to fill in for regular fire personnel, who are walking the picket lines with everyone else.
Bleich says the union is trying to abide by the emergency services agreement which basically means managers are doing the work of fire crews.
Yesterday, managers helped put out a fire northeast of Kenora using helicopters with water buckets.
