Municipal leaders in Northern Ontario and Quebec are standing up for the forest industry.
Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association President Dave Canfield says a group of over 30 mayors were joined by the Ontario Forest Industries Association and Quebec Forest Industry Council this week to lobby against slander campaigns.
Canfield says the group is appealing to Ontario, Quebec, and the federal government to promote the sustainable forestry practices in the two provinces.
He says the time to act is now as the forest sector is on the rebound.
Canfield says they can’t sit back while environmental groups chastise the industry, despite the two provinces having the highest standards in the world.
He adds they may be making appearances in the Ontario and Quebec legislatures in the near future.
